In his article Stålström criticizes the way in which homosexuality is treated as a psychiatric problem, not as a social one. Psychiatry - classifying homosexuality as a sickness - as well as discriminating laws, commercial sex and tabloids reproduce false stereotypes of homosexuals and force homosexuals to live a double-life. Stålström compares the situation of homosexuals in Finland with apartheid, and he states that the problems and self-destructiveness of homosexuals should be seen as a result of oppression.
